Volgograd State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (VSUACE) was founded in December, 1951.

Previous names

  • Stalingrad Institute of Engineers of Municipal Economy;
  • Volgograd Institute of Engineers of Municipal Economy;
  • Volgograd Civil Engineering Institute;
  • Volgograd State Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

On December 29, 2003 it was awarded the status of University by Order №4842.

At present, the VSUACE includes:

6 Faculties:

  • Faculty of Architecture,
  • Faculty of Civil Engineering,
  • Faculty of Engineering Systems and Technosphere Safety,
  • Faculty of Highway Engineering and Transport Constructions,
  • Faculty of Economics and Law,
  • Faculty of Fundamental Education,

1 Institute:

  • Institute of Distance Education,

and 2 Affiliates:

  • Volzhsky Institute of Civil Engineering and Technologies (VISTeh);
  • Sebryakovsky Affiliate of VSUACE

as well as a representative office in the city of Astrakhan.

All the units of the University function in accordance with the Statute of VSUACE and with the Regulations approved by the Scientific Council of the University.

General information

Starting with September 1 2011, VSUACE includes 6 faculties, 40 departments, 2 affiliates, 1 territorially non-separated institute, 27 specialized scientific-manufacturing laboratories and workshops. A large informational library complex is at the disposal of students and the teaching staff.

The main areas of VSUACE activities cover the training of highly-qualified engineering professionals: architects, engineers, ecologists, economists. At present, more than 12 000 students are taught at various forms of study. The educational process is conducted in 29 specialities, in two fields of Bachelor’s Programme and in one field of Master’s Programme.

The University prepares postgraduate students in 30 specialities (7 branches of science), doctoral candidates in 4 specialities; 5 Dissertation Councils for Doctor of Science and Candidate of Science Degrees in 11 specialities function at the University.
The University realizes several long-term international educational projects and has Cooperation Agreements with universities in Germany, the USA, Canada, and other countries.

Regional Employment Assistance Center for Students and Graduates (REACSG) operates at VSUACE according to the “Support for Strategic Directions of the Higher Professional Education Development” Federal Program, and cooperates with enterprises and organizations providing vacancies to graduates.

Student Self-government Bodies have been formed here – the Student Club and the Student Council. The headquarters of Student Construction Teams (SCT) functions at VSUACE which is a repeated winner of Student Construction Teams competitions in the Volgograd region.

A great attention is paid to social issues. There are sport gyms, a sport and health-improving camp, a health-care facility, dormitories, a canteen. More than 10 student creative teams function here as well as 27 sports groups.

Active Members and Corresponding Members of various Industry Academies of Sciences of the Russian Federation, Honourable Workers of Higher Professional Education of RF, Honoured Men of Science and Technics of RF, Honoured Artists of RF, Honoured Workers of Higher School, an Honoured Architect of RF, an Honoured Worker of Culture, an Honourable Member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences.

The scientific-and-pedagogical potential is developed through Postgraduate and Doctoral Programmes and through Scientific Degree Seeking.

Since 1999, the scientific-and-theoretical and industrial-and-practical journal of “Vestnik of VolgGASU” is published. All the series of “Vestnik of VolgGASU” have been included into the List of leading peer-view scientific journals and publications issued in RF, approved by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation Ministry of Education and Science, in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the Scientific Degrees of Candidate of Science and Doctor of Science (in the sectors of Construction and Architecture).

The first issues of scientific-and-technical multithematic on-line network journal of   “Internet-Vestnik of VolgGASU” were published in 2006. In 2009, the print scientific-and-theoretical journal of “Sotsiologhiya Goroda” was established.

VSUACE is a member of the Association of High Schools for Construction Education (ASV). VSUACE is a member of the International Association for Automotive and Road Engineering Education (IAAREE). International recognition resulted in the awarding of our university with the “Golden Eagle” prize in 1998 as well as with the numbered certificate within the framework of the program “Partnership for the sake of Progress” for the following activities: preparation of highly-qualified scientific and industrial personnel to work in modern conditions, high professionalism, and fundamental theoretical research.  

The most significant projects of the university in the sphere of international activity are:

  • The Programme of cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences of Cologne (Germany);
  • The Programme of cooperation with Michigan State University (USA);
  • The programmes of study placement for students, postgraduate students and staff at foreign educational and scientific-research organizations.

Within the framework of the International Agreement for Academic Cooperation with Michigan State University, in 1999 Volgograd Department of Michigan Section of International Institute of Transportation Engineers was founded.

In 2006 the “Advisory Programme in the area of Civil Engineering Informatics” was launched, which is being realized at VSUACE in cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin (Germany).

VSUACE has signed agreements of cooperation with 15 foreign higher  educational institutions, including Michigan State University (USA), Cologne University of  Applied Sciences (Germany), the University of Florence (Italy), the University of Niš (Serbia), Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (Slovakia), Odessa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture (Ukraine), Samarkand State Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture (Uzbekistan), etc.
